Here are some examples of educational applications and courseware our customers have developed using MetaCard. Click on any image to load the full-resolution version of that image: Since prehistory people
have tried to record their dances. Early forms of writing contained
pictures to represent movement. Later innovations included
abbreviations, track drawings, stick figures, and music notes. In
1928, Rudolph von Laban's "Schrifttanz" (written dance) introduced
direction symbols of various lengths (to represent time) on a vertical
staff (to represent the left and right sides of the body). Newer
systems, based on mathematics have appeared as the Laban system
continued its development. Today,
Labanotation
is the most universal system of movement notation since it can record
all types of movement - even the flicker of an eyelid. In Europe the
system is called Kinetography Laban.
SpacePlaceGuide 3.0,
created in MetaCard by G.W.A. Gorchoff, is an introduction to
Labanotation featuring NotationMan. He will be your guide as you learn
to read movement.
Making extensive use of animated simulations, the product was converted well within the established budget and is now available for an audience ten times larger than before.
The project was ported to Windows by Richard Gaskin of Fourth World Media Corporation, Given MetaCard's much
faster runtime execution, one of the toughest challenges with
converting the tutorial for Windows was slowing down some of the
animations.
The Math Generator was created entirely in MetaCard. Using MetaCard
allows KIDware
Technologies to stay ahead of the competition who may be using
other languages. Product features can be implemented
faster and easier without compromising quality. The Math
Generator really shows how fast MetaCard operates. It literally
generates, checks, and sorts hundreds of random numbers in the blink
of an eye.
It was developed by The Flexible
Learning Company for the Financial Literacy Centre at Warwick
University to support the on-going provision of education materials
for schools and colleges.
